About Sumac CCPDT-KA

Sumac is a Certified Professional dog trainer. She began training 50 years ago and has been teaching professionally for over 30 years. She is the founder of Wag It Games and Wag It Camps, a certified agility instructor and an AKC Canine Good Citizen and Love On A Leash therapy dog evaluator. Sumac was the first fully approved APDT Rally Obedience judge in New England. She owned and operated Wag it Training Center in Lincolnville, Maine for 15 years before relocating back to NH.

Sumac continues to teach classes and offers seminars and instructor training around the US and online internationally. She offers Wag It Camps each summer in events that combine training, games and tons of fun. 

Highlights of Sumac's career have been named Maine Dog Trainer Of The Year, appearing on Disney’s “That’s My Dog” and “Fetch! With Ruff Ruffman” on PBS.  Sumac has presented at multiple Association of Professional Dog Trainers national conferences and presented at Suzanne Clothiers Trainers Workshop. She has also been a contributor to DownEast Dog News and the Association of Professional Dog Trainer's Chronicle of the Dog publications. 

Over the years Sumac has participated in a wide variety of dog sports. She has competed successfully in the uppermost levels of agility and had dogs rank in the top 10 in the USA in Rally Obedience.

Sumac's goal is to help her clients progress towards their goals through a process that supports the dog/owner relationship and builds skills through an experience that is enjoyable for both dog and handler.

Sumac believes training is at its best when based in modern behavioral science and positive methods. Her training enriches the dog/owner relationship and helps owners reach their training goal all while having a great time with their canine pal.
